Amboise in the Loire Valley
The town of Amboise is popular with our guests
here at the 'Old
Walnut Mill' as it brings many of the
facets of the Loire Valley together in one place. It has the
Loire Valley history connection in its
chateau and
Leonardo de Vinci, it provides a unique skyline as a backdrop to the
river Loire itself plus provides entertainment for the kids in the form
of
'Mini Chateaux Land'
and nearby 'Fantasy
Forest'.
The town itself offers a few
shopping opportunities for the ladies plus a very good mix
of restaurants to cater for the hordes of tourists who
descend on its quaint streets during the summer months.
Market days here are Friday and
Sunday mornings with stalls set up along the riverbank. The Friday
market is a mainly food market with Sunday's being a more 'general' market.
While we don't personally think
that the chateau here should be on your 'must see' list the
town itself is worth a
visit along with the last 'home' of Leonado da Vinci at
nearby
'Clos
Luce'.
As we we said, if you are visiting with children you might
want to check out 'Mini Chateaux Land', it may also help you
decide which of the many major Loire Valley Chateaux you
want to visit.
Some guests combine a visit to
the Garden Festival at
Chaumont-sur-Loire which is only 20 minutes further
along the river Loire.
