Angles-sur-l'Anglin

The beautiful village of Angles-sur-l'Anglin is one of the most popular places to visit for

our guests at the 'Old Walnut Mill' -  I must have taken a thousand photographs here!

It is a photographers dream with its castle ruins and high and low vantage points.

There is a spectacular fireworks display on the first Sunday of August, the best in the area,  with the castle ruins as a backdrop. There is a fete in the afternoon so you can spend a very pleasant day here having fun and exploring before the night spectacular.

The village which is served by many little restaurants where you can simply have a coffee or drink or have an alfresco lunch, this charming village offers a variety of eating options.

The restaurants on the 'square' offer a simple lunchtime menu where you can have omelette and chips for a reasonable price. They are actually big enough to buy one and share! There is also a plethora of brocante, bric-a-brac shops to explore.

There is also a very well established  'salon de thé'- 'No 15' - in the village which is run by an enterprising English couple offering a great selection of teas, scones and cakes as well as full meals. You can also have an ice cream to cool you down after a cycle ride. Please note they are closed on Wednesdays.

Roc Aux Sorciers in Angles-sur-l'Anglin

Angles-sur-l'Anglin has the Roc Aux Sorciers ( witches rock) an exhibition that highlights the presence in the area of a cave containing prehistoric carvings dating from 14 000 years ago. The cave was discovered in 1950 but is inaccessible to the public in order to conserve it. This site produces a replica of the site to allow you to 'view'  this important prehistoric art-work. We have had mixed responses from guests however, as to whether or not it is a worthwhile visit - you may just have to visit to judge for yourself.
