Current update here
On a visit to this cathedral do not expect
to find flying buttresses gothic windows or
large spires or bell towers - no this is
something quite unique!
Listed
as an historical monument since July 2012 the
Cathédrale de Jean Linard is a wonderful example of
singular artwork manifesting
itself as architecture in harmony with its
environment.
Built by the artist using locally
sourced recycled materials, the buildings and gardens,
where
architecture, sculpture, mosaics and ceramics are explored
simultaneously, are a delight to the eye.
He lived here for most of is life waking up
daily to the challenge of how to express his
creativity. He died in 2010 but what a
legacy to have left! Since 2012 its upkeep
has been the responsibility of a group 'Autour de la Cathédrale de Jean
Linard' who are dedicated to retaining its
authenticity and offering exhibitions and
practical workshops.
We had stopped in on the way over to visit
Sancerre but had chosen a day when the site
was closed, it only opens on weekends and
public and school holidays but we have vowed
to return for a visit under a bright sun and
blue sky when it must be even more
spectacular!
