The Loire River, its tributaries and the regions many lakes offer many opportunities for water sports and activities, including canoeing, kayaking and fishing. There are also a number of excursions on offer on the waterways of the region.
As, 'the last wild river of France', swimming in the waters of the Loire are discouraged and in some places banned altogether but safe swimming can be found in towns and villages on the banks of its tributaries. A number of locations like
Barrou
on the Creuse,
Montrichard on the Cher and many of the regions lakes offer man-made
'beaches'
during the summer months.
