Angles sur l'Anglin

View of the castle ruins at Angles sur l'Anglin

Angles-sur-l'Anglin is a 'must see' village 25 minutes from the Old Walnut Mill Barrou. It is acknowledged as one of the most beautiful villages of France (plus beaux villages de France’ ). Its dramatic ruined cliff-top castle must be the backdrop to thousands of visitors photographs, it's certainly very popular with our guests!

It is the rich heritage and history of the village and its desire to conserve its individuality and authenticity, that has it listed as one of the 'Most beautiful villages in France',(Les-plus-beaux-villages-de-France), it is indeed a beautiful place.

This great photo was taking by photographer friend of ours who has a house in the village.

Its medieval streets provide very pleasant marked-out walks that provide surprises. around every corner.

There is a fabulous fireworks display on the first Sunday of August with the river and castle ruins taking centre stage, many of our guests have enjoyed the spectacular .

The village provides an number of eating options to suit most budgets. There is a small eating area in the heart of the village which is served by a creperie and restaurant plus other options throughout its winding streets. There is also a number of antique/brocante shops to wander through in search of treasures or just for window shopping.

An enterprising English couple have opened a salon de thé (tearoom)calledNo15 just over the bridge which is proving popular with visitors. They offer teas, coffees, sandwiches, salads and ice cream and homemade pastries in a very comfortable dining room. Open from11.00am (closed on Wednesdays)

To get the most of the great views of this charming village you should park in the parking area of the 'higher village'. As you enter the village on the D5 from Vicq sur Gartempe you take an immediate right turn at the 'Bar Creperie l'Angles towards the parking.

Head down to the wall at the bottom of the field to take in the views. Pop into the tourist office and pick up a map of the village walk and make your way down to the 'lower village for more great photo opportunities.

This is a 'must see' village.
