On first site Chateeu du Plessis Bourre appears to rest in the middle of a lake but this is in fact it's wide moat formed to improve it's defensive qualities. 

The chateau is the work of Jean Bourre who was also responsible for the creation Chateau Langeais - both are testament to a build quality that has withstood the test of time. His skills were also used to assist in many other chateaux's transformation from fortresses to very comfortable dwellings. Like Langeais it still retains its drawbridges - a feature that always impresses the kids !
