Saint Michel de Fontevraud Abbey
is a
beautiful Romanesque / Angevine church in the town of the same name

Fontevraud-l'Abbay -
it has a
single nave with three bays, leading to an impressive choir.
It was built in the twelfth century
at the initiative of the Abbess of the Abbey itself and founded by
Henri II Plantagenêt and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
The main
altar in the church is the former altar of the abbey church and is
gilded with fine gold
Henri and Eleanor feature on the ceiling of the apse.
The
church was enlarged over the centuries with the addition of side
chapels.
Baptismal font
Where's Joan? she's here and dressed in
gold.
