Saint-Quentin-sur-Indrois

The church of Saint-Quentin in the small village of Saint-Quentin-sur-Indrois is worth a look if you are visiting the nearby (2.4km) pretty village of Chedigny. The oldest parts of the church, the nave and the bell tower can be dated back to the 11th/12th centuries when it was part of a priory established by the Abbey of Marmoutier (Tours).

The choir and apse date from the 16th century.

The stained glass is by a designer from Toulouse

There are two arched entrances to the church, one at the side and one at the bottom of the wooden barrel vaulted nave. There is a small gallery above the bottom entrance to the church which gives an interesting overall view.

Where's Joan?

There is no reference to her here, though there was this rather formidable character.

The churches bell tower was damaged during a lightning storm in 1998 which knoked off the top of the spire causing damage to the main roof as it tumbled.
